Emily Wong, LMFT

I specialize in working with adults and adolescents with eating disorders. More specifically, I support clients struggling with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, ARFID, exercise addiction, BED and orthorexia.

Therapeutic tools I incorporate include mindfulness, breath work, art therapy, CBT principles and family therapy. I help individuals and couples understand their internal battles, navigate interpersonal relationships and understand the functions of  their behaviors and feelings

How I Work

I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I encourage clients to have agency in their therapeutic journey while I help guide them. It’s important to me that clients feel like they’re benefiting from therapy every step along the way, and I regularly check in to see what’s working and what’s not. In my reflections to clients, I take a compassionate approach, but I also keep it real and authentically tell them what I see.

Everyone deserves to heal and grow with the person they love. I help couples recognize their negative patterns and cycles, learn to communicate more effectively and openly, and build a stronger connection around safety and love. Much of my work is based on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an empirically effective method for working with couples.

My Why

When I was younger, I really struggled to find a therapist that I connected with. When I finally found someone who I felt safe enough to open up to, my whole perspective of therapy changed, and I began a journey toward healing that I didn’t even know was possible. As a bi-racial, cisgender woman born and raised in the Bay Area, I feel grateful to support the diverse community of San Francisco and beyond as a mental health advocate.
