About Laura

Laura is a California girl. She grew up in the redwoods of Sonoma County and now lives in Berkeley. She belongs to a meditation group in the Plum Village tradition, which was started by Thich Nhat Hanh. In her meditation practice and work with her own therapist, she finds it helpful to practice acknowledging, allowing, and creating spaciousness for thoughts and feelings.

She sees therapy as a helpful tool to work through difficult situations and patterns of behavior. “Therapy keeps me open to the world,” she says.

Laura is currently in graduate school to become a marriage and family therapist. In her role as client care coordinator, she has been able to hone her listening skills and empathically support potential clients as they seek support on their unique recovery journeys. She looks forward to the future when she will earn her license as a therapist and can help her own clients transform their lives.

“I am often inspired by the courage of the clients I speak with. It’s not always easy to ask for help. Especially if someone has been struggling with an eating disorder for a while. But I’ve observed that when a person is willing to pick themselves up and try again, that seems to be an important inflection point. Resilience is crucial to healing.”

What to expect on an intake call

The first step to getting started with an Evolve therapist or dietitian is to have an intake call. You can schedule one with Laura on our Contact page. Once you schedule the appointment, you will receive some intake forms to fill out via our secure client platform, Simple Practice.

Laura will call you at the agreed upon appointment time. The phone call generally lasts about 15–20 minutes. It’s a chance to learn a bit about you, what you’re hoping to work on and answer any questions you might have.

If it feels like a good fit, then Laura will make recommendations as far as the right match clinician wise. We always want your input around preferred clinician style/approach and what works best with your schedule. Based on that, Laura will be able to get you started with scheduling your first session.

During the entire time a person is a client of Evolve, Laura is a point of contact for other areas of care coordination as well. She can help with insurance/billing questions, adding other sources of support such as a medical doctor or providing referrals for family members or friends.

“I felt truly cared for throughout my entire experience with Evolve. The intake process was smooth and professional, and everyone I interacted with was very kind.” – client testimonial
